JOHN CALE
Signs to Double Six

Releases EP of new material on September 19th
We are very proud to announce that John Cale has signed to Domino imprint, Double Six.
Extra Playful, a five track EP of brand new material will be released on 12? (DS046T) and digitally (DS046D) on September 19th.
John Cale is forever ready to jump off the edge and take everyone with him. Extra Playful leaps from Pop's edge with glee, freewheeling through springy beats, snaking, shonky guitar lines and zones of exciting texture that gesture to Cale's role as a master producer. His lyrics veer from richly poetic to extra playful; at times it's as though he's having a little word in your ear, which is welcome from a voice as charming and smart as he is here. He's asking you to have fun with him, and who can say no when he's offering whimsical art rock this fine, beguiling and invigorating.
The tracklisting for Extra Playful is as follows:
1. Catastrofuk
2. Whaddya Mean By That?
3. Hey Ray
4. Pile A L?Heure
5. Perfection
John Cale?s first full length album for Double Six will be released in 2012. John will be performing at Field Day in London on Saturday, August 6th.

Blimey - I think that record company PR has been on a creative writing course, look forward to hearing it though..bradski wrote: John Cale is forever ready to jump off the edge and take everyone with him. Re: John Cale EP
... i dunno ... doesn't 'whimsical art-rock' sound kind of 'shonky'?

Re: John Cale EP
I don't know, to me it looks like bad translation from another language.
Re: John Cale EP
i have just been sent the new EP by Domino. I wuz hopin for a cd promo but its a download as is the fashion these days (a very bad fashion which i hope will die out >fat chance<)
It would be really good if everyone who is sent download promos refused to play em and demanded hard copies instead but i guess i'm a dinosaur just living in the past.
Anyway - i digress
I have had a quick listen and here's my report;
01 - Catastrofuk - acoustic strummed intro into distorto grunge sound with poppy 'doo-doo-doos'. Cale in strong voice /with a nice flabby fat bass sound. Catchy.
02 - Whaddya Mean By That ? - more downbeat lower key song. Nothing special sadly. has a kind of weeping guitar sound
03 - Hey Ray - Crunchy drum beat intro into half-spoken / rap(!) So-so chorus with girly back-ups.
04 - Pile A L'Heure - Machine drum intro with vocodered robotic vocal. Quite modern sounding/ but poppy/ commercial too.
05 - Perfection - another so-so song. Sorry to be lukewarm about this. Could be any Cale album filler from the last 35 years imo. Not great.
Oh well - thats my impression on 1st listen. Best tracks definitely 1 and 4.

Re: John Cale EP

To herald the release this week of the CD version of John Cale?s Extra Playful EP, Double Six are happy to share a new video for the EP track ?Catastrofuk?, directed by his daughter, Eden Cale.
In keeping with the Extra Playful spirit of the EP, the video to ?Catastrofuk? sees him exploring outer space. The new world in which he finds himself appears inviting on the surface, but slowly it's darker elements reveal themselves and it becomes apparent that all is not quite as it seems.

The Extra Playful EP, available digitally and on 12? now, has also just been issued for the first time on CD.

Details of the forthcoming John Cale full-length album, due out in spring 2012, will be announced soon.
