Another VU
Dear All,
There have been some exciting developments with the Another VU project recently!
Our new website is now live: https://www.anothervu.net/
To coincide with the website going live, we have just released two more short video clips from our previous rehearsal on YouTube, of us playing the songs ‘Guess I’m Falling In Love’ and ‘Sister Ray’ - these can be viewed via our homepage, or Cam’s YouTube channel.
Please share our new website & videos with others if you are able to, and help spread the word about us and our work!
In other news, we have invested in a beautifully appointed, custom-built electric viola, and Bobby has spent the last month painstakingly transcribing and perfecting the pivotal and rarely replicated drone tonalities of John Cale’s playing - another short video clip of us playing 'Venus In Furs' and 'Heroin' at our most recent rehearsal on Monday, has just been uploaded to the website/channel today, and is linked below!
British-Norweigan contralto vocalist Caroline Dawson - who previously collaborated with Cam for his 'All Tomorrow's Parties', 'Femme Fatale', 'I'll Be Your Mirror' and 'Sunday Morning' YouTube videos - has also been in touch recently, and confirmed her interest in taking part in our show later this year, and performing the parts of Nico.
We have chosen what we think will be the perfect venue for the show in central London, and enquiries are currently being made to obtain funding towards booking/hire - more information on this as it transpires.
Cam has also invested in the final equipment items needed for the light show, and trials will soon begin at rehearsals in order to eventually generate a multimedia experience as similar as it can possibly be, to the original Exploding Plastic Inevitable.
To make a donation towards the project, please visit our Ko-Fi page: https://ko-fi.com/camforrester
We look forward to bringing you further news!
Much love,
Cam, Bobby, Kyle and Ella x

Re: Another VU
In the interests of research and authenticity, how many violas did you break the neck of when stringing them with guitar strings....?
Looking and sounding good; remember there are music fans outside of London and the likes of Liverpool and Manchester could have some good venues for you to play!

Re: Another VU
Haha, Bobby's using standard viola strings in this case.
I believe Cale mainly used guitar/banjo/mandolin strings, because they allowed for better distortion/feedback, via the pickup he was using, but that's not an issue with Bobby's custom viola, as it's electric (not a modified standard viola) and therefore it's easier to achieve distortion with via a pedal or amp.
Thanks - we will definitely be looking to perform at other venues around the country, it's just that London is central of course and a good place to start!

NEWSLETTER #3: “A style that grates...”
Dear All,
Last Sunday we had our first rehearsal session at a new venue, which we’ve appropriately nicknamed the ‘Gymnasium’ - since it literally is one! - and made several recordings of the set, which sounded fantastic in a larger space, similar in size to venues the Velvets played back in the day.
Photos from the session can be found on the new 'Gallery' page on our website.
Also, please follow our new social media profiles, so that going forward we can engage with you all more closely, and offer pictorial updates and other sneak-peaks of our progress.
A short clip of us playing 'Venus In Furs' at the Gymnasium rehearsal session demonstrates how the familiar, grating sound that we all know and love, is really coming together:

TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@anothervuband
We've also just uploaded another video from the session on YouTube; a full performance of ‘I’m Waiting For The Man’:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ6PHSssmfo
Please let us know your thoughts in the comments section, and share the video with others if you are able to - help us spread the word about our work!
Venue enquiries and funding applications are in progress - more information on this as it transpires - but for now, let’s just say that we fully intend to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Velvet Underground’s first concerts in style, and can’t wait to see you all there!
We look forward to bringing you further news!

ANOTHER VU - A TRIBUTE TO THE VELVET UNDERGROUND [PROMOTIONAL FILM]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Yp0LNWJohM
The experience of listening to a record, or watching a video of your favourite music is totally different to actually seeing it being performed live in front of you, and feeling the vibrations hitting your body all over.
ANOTHER VU are pulling out every conceivable stop to ensure that if you squinted your eyes for a moment at one of their shows, you could almost believe you had travelled back in time to a real VU concert at The Dom in 1966, or the Boston Tea Party in 1969.
"Maureen Tucker often used to wish she were out in the audience watching the Velvets' shows, rather than being on stage playing them - they were so special.
As lifelong fans who were all born too late to have ever seen the original band live, revitalising their seminal music as faithfully as humanly possible, is the closest we can get to the real thing.
Nobody can replace The Velvet Underground - our objective is to honour and further their legacy, by creating an authentic experience for audiences to enjoy today.
We are not only working on accurately reproducing the Velvets' music, but also reenacting every aspect of the influential multi-media shows they performed while managed by Andy Warhol & Paul Morrissey during 1966-1967, as well as the many independent concerts they performed after going out on the road touring by themselves, between 1967-1970.
The level of attention to detail is going to be unlike any VU tribute event attempted before.
We use all the same guitar models, 100W solid-state amplifiers with Vox 4x12 cabinets, a vintage drum kit set up just like Moe’s, minimal pedals, and a full outfit of vintage Shure Unidyne microphones.
We're also in the process building an Art Deco mirror ball just like the ones seen at Warhol's Silver Factory and the Boston Tea Party, to use as part of our liquid, light and film projection show.
It's a challenging gig, musically. They didn’t have monitor speakers in the mid-1960's, so you really have to watch and listen to each other closely to keep things together. Ella (our drummer) has to read my lips to keep track of where we are in louder songs like Heroin, just like Moe had to with Lou.
It's a totally different experience to playing with a modern live sound setup where everything can be heard easily on stage, and it's a very different live sound altogether.
We rely on the sound of the amplifiers themselves reflecting off the walls in the room, and use the PA only for vocals, plus a little drum kit reinforcement. To the audience, this offers a strong sense of pulsation and movement, sort of like a doppler effect, but with several sounds coming from different places, rather than everything being mixed and coming through the PA evenly, like band concerts today.
So far we have been financing everything ourselves; getting a project like this off the ground is a costly process. We have already spent thousands of pounds/dollars in equipment and rehearsals. To succeed in this endeavour, we need support and backing, so any contributions towards us making this vision a reality are greatly appreciated." - Cam Forrester

Dear All,
I recently gave an in-depth interview about the Another VU project to Jay Dobis and Jason Gross of ‘Perfect Sound Forever’ online magazine, which has just been published in two parts today:

We've also uploaded a new promotional video today, comprising highlight clips from our rehearsals at the Gymnasium, as well as a clip of Bobby offering a little 'behind the scenes' walk-around tour of our stage setup:
